To begin, enter your item's weight and choose 14ct. Our 14ct gold price calculator uses the information you provide; it cannot identify an item's metal content remotely. Therefore, ask for guidance if you do not know the purity rather than selecting a setting by appearance alone.

What Do 14ct, 14k and 585 Mean?
14ct and 14k are alternative ways of describing 14-carat gold. In the UK, the recognised hallmark fineness for 14ct gold is 585, meaning 585 parts gold per thousand, or 58.5%. The remaining metal is made up of other elements in the alloy. The Birmingham Assay Office's gold hallmarking guide lists this standard.
You may also see 14ct described mathematically as 14 divided by 24, approximately 58.3%. However, that calculation and the UK 585 hallmark standard are not identical. When reviewing your offer, ask which assessed fineness and buying rate apply to your items.
For example, look inside rings, near necklace clasps or on pendant backs for markings. A readable mark can help you select the calculator setting, but it does not replace testing. Our gold hallmark guide explains common purity marks.
How to Use the Calculator
Our 14 carat gold price calculator gives the most useful starting point when you enter the details carefully. First, separate items with different markings so that you do not apply one rate to mixed purities.
- List the pieces. Note the rings, earrings, necklaces or other items you want to value.
- Check the markings. Look for 14ct, 14k or 585, and mention any unclear marks when enquiring.
- Weigh in grams. Note whether the measurement includes stones or other materials.
- Select 14ct and calculate. Record the date, weight and result for reference.
For instance, calculate a 9ct chain separately from a 14ct pendant. Otherwise, applying the 14ct gold price to the combined weight could overstate the estimate.
14ct Gold Price UK: Calculate Your Item’s Value
To calculate an estimate, multiply the eligible weight of the alloy by the quoted 14ct gold price per gram:
Estimated value = eligible 14ct alloy weight in grams × 14ct rate per gram
Because the 14ct rate already accounts for purity, do not multiply the result by 58.5% again. Otherwise, you would apply a second purity adjustment and underestimate the value. Similarly, do not treat a pure-gold spot price as a buyer's payable rate for 14ct jewellery.
Example Values for Different Weights
These examples use the same indicative 14ct rate shown above: £54.71 per gram. They estimate metal value, not a guaranteed buying offer. Exclude stones and non-gold parts from the weight.
| 14ct gold weight | Calculation | Indicative metal value |
|---|---|---|
| 1g | 1 × £54.71 | £54.71 |
| 2g | 2 × £54.71 | £109.42 |
| 5g | 5 × £54.71 | £273.55 |
| 10g | 10 × £54.71 | £547.10 |
| 20g | 20 × £54.71 | £1,094.20 |

Why Your Confirmed Offer Can Differ
An estimate relies on your selected purity and entered weight. However, inspection may identify a different gold content or exclude materials that were included in your home measurement. In addition, the applicable rate may have changed since you used the calculator.
Stones and Non-Gold Parts
For example, gemstones, watch movements and non-gold fittings can add weight without adding the same gold value. Therefore, a ring weighing 5g in total does not necessarily contain 5g of eligible gold alloy.
Ask which weight is used in your offer and how attached components have been treated. Also, mention separate marks on a clasp, charm or pendant. These parts may have different purities, so they should not automatically share the same valuation rate.
Testing and Assessment
We assess weight and gold content before making an offer. Our gold testing service uses X-ray fluorescence, or XRF, to help identify the metals present in an alloy.
If a result differs from your expectations, ask us to explain it before accepting. You can then review whether the 14ct gold price applies to your item and understand the basis of the offer.
Compare 14ct Gold Price UK Estimates and Final Offers
First, establish whether a displayed figure is a market benchmark, an indicative estimate or a buyer's payable rate. Then, compare offers using the same assessed weight and purity. A higher headline figure does not necessarily mean a higher final payment.
- What 14ct gold price per gram applies to the offer?
- Which weight and fineness are used?
- Are there any fees or deductions?
- How long is the offer available?
- When is payment arranged after acceptance?
- What happens if you decline?
Also, check postal insurance and return arrangements before sending your items. Keep your calculator result and postal receipt so you can refer to them if you have questions.
Can Broken Jewellery Still Have Value?
Yes. A broken chain or single earring can still contain valuable gold. For an offer based on metal content, the assessed weight and purity matter more than whether the piece is wearable.
For example, explore our pages on selling gold earrings, gold necklaces and scrap gold. However, antique or designer jewellery may have value beyond its metal content, so consider a specialist jewellery valuation where appropriate.
Check the 14ct Gold Price UK Before Selling
The 14ct gold price in the UK is a useful starting point, but the decision to sell should also reflect the confirmed offer and whether you want to keep the items. A calculator cannot predict the best future selling price.
If your jewellery has different purities, compare our 9ct price calculator and 18ct price calculator. Alternatively, use our general gold price calculator and calculate each purity separately.
When you are ready, complete our free insured pack request form. We assess your items and provide an offer for you to consider before deciding whether to sell.
